Nissan's one-box car, the Caravan, was born in February 1973. The body, designed exclusively for a one-box, not shared with trucks, was revolutionary. Initially, it was available in two lengths, with variations including light vans, coaches (wagons), and microbuses. In 1976, the sister car, the HOMY, was added, and it was well-received until the generation change in 1980. The E20 series Caravan/HOMY can be said to be a masterpiece that established the standard for subsequent domestic one-box cars.
